Across the globe, about 1,200 new coal-fired plants are being proposed, with China and India together accounting for 76 percent of the proposed new coal power capacities.  Furthermore, even though the projected renewables share of the global energy mix by 2030 is expected to grow, fossil fuels will be a significant electric generation—about 44 percent. These trends show there is still more to be done if we are to achieve significant reductions in global carbon emissions.

In the latest Build 100 Blog article, John Gϋlen, senior principal engineer at Bechtel, explores clean power-generation solutions for customers and countries that base their energy consumption on fossil fuels. The first is a patent pending technology for more efficient and cost-effective removal of CO2 from a gas turbine combined-cycle power plant. Another solution involves adding to or replacing aging or obsolete power generation equipment with newer equipment.
